Health and Safety News for Landlords
Landlords have been warned by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to make sure that their gas appliances are safe for tenants.
The message comes after a landlady from Wandsworth was fined £5000 with costs of £3719 for breaching directive 36(3) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. Evidence showed the landlady had gaps between safety checks.
An HSE inspector said, “We need landlords to make sure their gas appliances are maintained to a safe standard and an annual check must be carried out and recorded”. Landlords should also not cut back on maintenance costs in order to save money as it endangers their tenants, he added.
